Contest Rules in Brief:

  • Recipes must use fresh tomatoes as a key ingredient and will be judged on taste, ease of preparation, visual appeal and originality.
  • Culinary instructors must prejudge entires and submit one recipe from the school for national judging
  • Your school's entry must be postmarked, emailed or fax-dated by Friday, April 23, 2010.

Ready. Set. Create in the… Florida strawberries— a taste of summer all winter long recipe challenge

PLANT CITY/DOVER, FLA—Home cooks, culinary professionals and culinary students nationwide are invited to compete for cash in the first Florida Strawberries — A Taste of Summer All Winter Long Recipe Contest. Contest sponsors are the Florida Strawberry Growers Association (FSGA) and Taste of the South Magazine, a publication of Hoffman Media, LLC based in Birmingham, AL.

Foodies, heads up.

There's a cool wild rice recipe contest in the works for food pros.  The odds of winning cash, wild rice and recognition are huge. $5,000 is up for grabs.

The Pear Bureau Northwest is holding their second recipe contest for culinary students.  Grand prize is $5,000!  Deadline is January 29, 2010.  Enter online at www.usapears.org/students.aspx.

To honor the healthy menu

The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and CAFÉ are happy to announce a first-ever recipe contest for educators.  The winning twenty foodservice instructors will be taken on an all-expense-paid tour of some of Wisconsin’s most famous cheese making, August 15-18, 2010. Features of the tour will include:  tastings, demonstrations, facility and farm tours, discussions, and three days of the famous Wisconsin hospitality.

  • Instructors must use Wisconsin cheese as an ingredient in one recipe (which will become the property of WMMB if chosen as a winner; names will be used if published)
  • Recipe should be for 4-8 servings
  • Judging will be based on creativity, appearance, flavor, and calorie count.
  • Winners must be available for the August 15-18, 2010 tour.  Travel and lodging and meals are included in the prize.
  • Top 3 winners will be awarded a Wisconsin tasting and educational seminar at their school in addition to the tour in August
  • Any menu part may be featured.
  • Recipes may be featured at the CAFÉ events throughout 2010 and will be a part of the Healthy Menu workshop in Chicago, July 23-25, 2010.
  • Winners will receive $100 discount on the registration fee at any CAFÉ 2010 event.  This is nontransferable and must be used in 2010.

Culinary students can win cash for creative uses of Chilean Hass Avocados.  Avocados arrive here from Chile from August through February, so the Chilean Avocado Importers Association is looking for unique recipes for seasonal menus.  Recipes can be for any type of operation, any day part.  Entry deadline is December 20, 2009.  Recipes must be for 12 portions and use at least 3 Chilean Hass Avocados.  Mail entries to: The Food Professionals, P.O.
