The Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Education (CAFÉ) is proud to announce its partnership with Kendall College to offer the first national green award for foodservice education programs.
Who Is Eligible Any secondary or postsecondary culinary-arts or baking/pastry program in the United States, for-profit or non-profit, diploma- or degree-granting, is eligible for the CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award.
Criteria for the Award The foodservice program will be asked to describe its efforts in sustainable/green practices that have affected the curriculum. The award is looking for innovations, not necessarily large amounts of data, although data demonstrating the effectiveness of changes is helpful if available.
These innovations may be part of a course or may be practices used throughout the foodservice curriculum. They may be operational or part of a lecture/lab course. The curriculum changes need to be in place for at least six months to qualify.
The winning program will be selected for its level of innovation, perceived effectiveness to impact students’ understanding of any facet of sustainability, and ability to be implemented in other culinary-arts programs nationally.
Application Process Applications must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2010, and sent to the CAFÉ office at 959 Melvin Road, Annapolis, MD 21403. There must be four copies of the application.
The Application should include the full contact information of the person/program applying for the Award. It should also consist of a 500-word (minimum) essay along with any supporting documentation that the applicant feels will better help the committee review and understand the application.
The winner of the CAFÉ/Kendall College Green Award will be given a cash prize of $1,000 plus complimentary registration to the CAFÉ Leadership Conference, June 25-27, 2010, in Baltimore, Maryland. The award-winner will be notified no later than May 1, 2010. CAFÉ requests that the winner (or a representative) be present at the Leadership Conference.
CAFÉ reserves the right to publicize the winner of the Green Award, through its Web site at www.CafeMeetingPlace.com and to national media. Information that led to the award might also appear in “The Gold Medal Classroom” as an instructional article.
