Career-Track Position in Hotel & Restaurant Management. The School of Hotel & Restaurant Management (HRM) in The W.A. Franke College of Business (FCB) at Northern Arizona University (NAU) invites applications for one full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice of Food and Beverage Operations with a focus in Culinary and Beverage arts to begin in August 2023. This position will be located at the Flagstaff Mountain campus of NAU HRM.

Job Description:

  • Teach up to 12 credit hours of undergraduate courses in each of the fall and spring semesters; possible opportunity to teach in summer and winter for additional income. Typically, this will entail teaching in Culinary, Food, and Beverage courses including labs.
  • Enhance the HRM program by working closely with industry, inviting industry practitioners as guest speakers to classes, and engaging in community outreach.
  • The successful applicant will be able to teach a wide range of HRM courses, with particular interest and ability to teach Food and Beverage topics as well as experience in one of the following NAU Franke College of Business vertical areas including Restaurant Design, Gastronomy, or Restaurant Operations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to student success, program advancement, & scholarly publications.
  • Manage HRM Kitchen, Beverage, and Café learning labs.
  • Other duties as assigned by HRM Executive Director

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or related field from accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to run profitable food and beverage operations as owner or lead chef manager.
  • Minimum 5 years as lead culinary in profitable food/beverage service operation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated evidence of currency in the hospitality industry.
  • Prior teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of excellence in working with historically underrepresented constituencies.
  • Certified Executive Chef and ServSafe certifications.
  • Culinary Arts Degree from Accredited program.
  • Intention to start (within 1 year of hire date) or currently in a related master’s degree at an accredited institution.
