CAFÉ Talks Ep. 44 – Teaching, Training & Lifelong Learning

Tuesday, 22 March 2022 12:45

There is no greater calling, there is no task more important, and there is no objective more rewarding for a chef than to teach, train, and mentor. Chefs spend their careers, sometimes unknowingly, helping others build the technical and life skills necessary to be successful. This is part of the job – quite possibly, the most important part of the job. Those chefs who are most impactful are the ones who create learning environments wherever they go – these are the chefs who truly make a difference.

Join CAFÉ Talks Podcast for a very interesting interview with Chef Jake Brach, currently the trainer and community liaison for Rich Products in Buffalo, New York. His career includes time with Charlie Trotter, Charlie Palmer, and Delaware North as chef and director of culinary training – the role that brought him to Rich Products for the past 20 years. Hear his thoughts on creating a life-long learning environment.

Oftentimes management is viewed as a controlling process – a way to get a job done through other people where to lead is to inspire, and to set a course for others to follow. However, we all know from our experience, that the title of “leader” is rarely defined in a way that accomplishes the goals of inspiration and setting a course for others to follow. Leadership has become a position rather than a method and a message. Some individuals with the title seek to accomplish their goals through direction and even instilling fear, while others do so through listening, supporting, teaching, and showing compassion for others. The gap is significant. Join our podcast as Elena Jensen, an executive coach and ambassador of compassion with eiLumen, guides us through a process of unlearning and relearning, a process leading to a more mindful approach towards managing and leading. Through self-assessment the listener can open the door to understanding what great leadership is all about.
